Year 12 update, 11 August 2021

Year 12 Update Wednesday August 11, 2021

Dear Year 12 Students and Families

Today we met with our Year 12 students and informed them that we were moving the final week of their Trial Exams to alternative assessment tasks that will be completed online. This change is inline with the most recent information released from the Department of Education. Week 1 of the Trial HSC Examinations was completed in Term 2, Week 10 and the second week of Trial Examinations was rescheduled to be completed in Term 3, Week 8. We are now replacing the second week of the Trial Examinations, which were scheduled to be held on the school site, to a Week 8 Trial HSC Assessment Period, where alternate tasks will be completed at home, delivered and submitted online using the Google Classroom platform.

With advice changing daily, it has been extremely difficult to navigate teaching, learning and scheduling the second week of the Trial HSC and I want to acknowledge the difficult circumstances our Year 12 students have been facing throughout this period and also to thank our parents for the support you are providing to your children. This decision offers some clarity in moving forward and has been made with consideration to our duty of care to our Year 12 students, staff and families in support of health and safety.

The alternative Trial HSC Assessment period will still run in Week 8. Year 12 students will not be required to attend their regular timetabled classes online during Week 8 and will only attend for their scheduled Trial Examinations, a new Trial Timetable for these will accompany this letter. Monday of Week 8, 30 August, will be a Study Day for Year 12 students with Online Exams/Assessments beginning on Tuesday, 31 August.

The nature of the exam tasks may differ and your Year 12 teachers will provide you, this week, with an outline of what this will look like for each of your exams.

Please note that NESA (NSW Education Standards Authority) has provided flexibility to Principals in determining the number, type and weighting of school-based assessments for Year 12 students and our decision to run the second week of Year 12 Trials will not compromise students’ eligibility of the HSC. The school will ensure the alternate Trial HSC Assessment tasks for each course are still in keeping with NESA’s principles of assessments and course completion criteria, and will continue to progress and prepare students for their final HSC Examinations commencing on 19 October.

If students or families have questions regarding these changes, we ask that students post questions or concerns on the Year 12 Google Classroom or for families to email the school placing Attention: Principal in the subject line. We will prepare responses to these questions and provide these in a timely manner.

For Term 3, Weeks 6 and 7 students will continue with their regular online timetable, learning from home.

Please take care and stay safe.

Yours Sincerely

Ms Lisette Gorick

Principal
