Communication

The Daily Bulletin

The Student Bulletin is read to students at the assembly at the commencement of the school day, every day.  It contains information about variations in school routines, sport, meetings and reminders of procedures which help the school to function better. It is therefore important that all students are punctual to the assembly at the beginning of the school day.

School Assemblies

Whole school assemblies are held every Thursday following the PBL lesson. Assemblies are led by students and often showcase student talent and celebrate student achievement and positive behaviour.

The school values the recognition of student achievement and will continue to publicly celebrate those achievements.

Telephone

At times, teachers may contact parents directly by phone to discuss particular issues.  Communication and working together is a successful way of assisting students in their learning. Parents/caregivers are welcome to contact teachers by phone if they wish to discuss the welfare, progress and conduct of their student.

Student Reports

Student academic reports are distributed twice each year, at the end of each semester.  In years 7-10, students are given these to take home at the end of Terms 2 and 4.

Reports are outcome based, and give information about student participation, learning and their achievement of the outcomes of the courses of study.

The reports contain a cover sheet that shows:

·         Student details

·         Courses studied

·         Whole days absent

·         Partial days absent

·         Unexplained absences

·         Information about the grading system

Parent/Student/Teacher Evenings

There are two Parent/Student/Teacher Evenings:

  • Years 7, 8 and 9 Evening – these will be advised a few weeks before the event
  • Years 10, 11 and 12 Evening

Teacher Interviews

If a parent/caregiver would like to meet with a teacher at a time other than the Parent/Student/Teacher Evening to discuss the welfare, progress and conduct of their student then they are welcome to contact the teacher to organise an interview time that is mutually convenient to all parties involved in the interview.

Subject Selection Evenings

There are two types of subject selection evenings:

  • Year 8 into Year 9 Subject Selection Evening
  • Year 10 into Year 11 Subject Selection Evening

Notes will be sent home advising parents of the exact dates and times.

These evenings are designed to support students and their families through the process of selecting elective courses of study.

Presentation Events

There are two important presentation assemblies each year:

  • The sports award assembly to recognise outstanding achievement in sport
  • The presentation assembly to recognise outstanding achievement in academic, cultural, community service and school service

Both of these assemblies are held during school hours in the school hall. Parents, friends and family are welcome to attend.

Notes will be sent home advising parents of the exact dates and times.

Mail

A substantial amount of the school communication with families occurs through the mail. The school uses the State Mail Service (under contract to all State Goverrnment facilities) and mail is cleared from the school daily.

It is a concern for the school that mail is often intercepted and does not reach parents/caregivers. Outgoing mail is recorded in a register. The school cannot be responsible for mail that does not reach its destination.

Typically, letters to parents have a return slip attached to them. Parents/caregivers are requested to complete this slip and return it to the school either by mail or direct delivery to the school office by parent/caregiver or the parent/caregiver's child.
