Special Religious Education (SRE), previously known as Scripture, is education in the beliefs and practices of an approved religious persuasion by authorised representatives of that persuasion.
Parents/caregivers in public schools have the right to have their children receive instruction in their religious persuasion, where authorised teachers of that persuasion are available. They also have the right to choose not to have their children attend special religious education.
At GPHS SRE is offered to Year 7-10 students each year by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney and Australian Christian Churches – Protestant, as a combined program. It is delivered by approved SRE teachers in accordance with the Department's policies and procedures.

At enrolment parents/carers are asked to indicate their child's religious persuasion on the ‘Application to Enrol in a NSW Government School' and also complete the ‘SRE Parent Information' form and return to the school to indicate if they wish their child to participate in SRE classes. This information is used to enrol students in SRE classes as identified. These arrangements will then continue each year, unless a parent/caregiver has requested a change in writing.
