Transition at Glenmore Park High School
The Transition Program at Glenmore Park High School (GPHS) utilises a strong collaboration between students, parents/carers, and many community stakeholders to assist students in identifying and achieving goals that improve their post-school options. At GPHS, the Transition program is primarily intended for students that wish to enter the workforce rather than complete the HSC. Participants are able to explore a broad range of vocational opportunities to build their experience and skills, with an end goal of transitioning into full-time employment or further study.
The Transition Program at GPHS focuses on three key areas of a student’s career development:
- Helping students to build and maintain a positive self-image.
- Teaching students how to access and evaluate career information that is useful to them.
- Facilitating learning opportunities for students to build the skills and experience necessary to manage their own career journey and achieve their goals.
GPHS students can access the Transition Program at any stage of their schooling, however, students can only sign-out of school prior to turning 17yrs if they meet the following criteria set out by the NSW Department of Education.
- Year 9: Students must complete Year 9.
- Year 10: Students can leave school, but only to undertake an approved full-time apprenticeship or traineeship.
- Year 11: Students qualify to sign-out if they gain 25 hours per week of permanent employment (not restricted to apprenticeships and traineeships), or if they attain a combination of permanent employment and approved study that totals at least 25 hours per week.
