BYOD
The BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program began with the new intake of Year 7 Students in 2023. It allows students at Glenmore Park High School to bring their own laptop from home to use at school. To ensure that the chosen device works in the school environment please download and read the Device Specifications document below.
Why is BYOD required?
Glenmore Park High School has invested heavily in laptop technology and this paid dividends during the necessity of Remote Learning during 2021 –2022. The school was able to provided many laptops to students who did not have a device.
This challenging time starkly revealed the necessity of technology in modern education and wider society where work from home has become common.
With BYOD there is evidence of improvements in standardised test results, particularly in literacy.
Teachers will have the opportunity to deepen student learning and develop digital literacy, fluency and citizenship in students to prepare them for the high tech world in which they will live, learn and work.
BYOD puts students in a position to take control of their learning. Educational researchers argue that giving students agency in their own learning is best.
Managed BYOD Program
In 2025 Glenmore Park is continuing with the BYOD program; students in Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 as well as Years 11 and 12 will be included. This initiative has the support of the P&C. It enables students to bring a device they own and connect to the Internet through the school’s wireless network. Students will be able to undertake research, carry out word processing and other applications in an efficient and creative manner.
Students who wish to use a device they already own for BYOD should check the BYOD Hardware and Software Specification document to see if their device is suitable.
NOTE: A MOBILE PHONE IS NOT AN APPROVED DEVICE.
The Information Communication Technology Policy document will also need to be sighted and is part of the policies that must be adhered to by all users of BYOD. The policy contains procedures, expectations of students and technical details.
Please also see the Social Media Code of Conduct policy for information about the appropriate use of devices in school.
