Unique opportunity to host a visiting student

Glenmore Park High School has been given the unique opportunity to receive a week-long visit from fourteen school students from China. This has been organised in conjunction with the Australian Social, Economic and Cultural Exchange Pty Ltd (ASECE). This visit is scheduled to take place from 29th July-5th August 2018.

We are currently seeking families who may be able to host 1 or 2 of the visiting students. We are asking if you would be interested in hosting a student for the duration of their visit. This would require 8 nights accommodation from 29th July 2018- 5th August 2018. There are 14 students in total; 3 males and 11 females, ranging in age from 13-17 years of age.

Hosting a student will allow for your child to meet someone their age who has grown up and gone to school in a different country. It is a unique opportunity to learn about another culture and the similarities and differences between going to school in China and Australia.

To host a visiting student, it is required that the host family:

  • Provide a bed (not an air mattress) for eight nights.
  • Sign a statutory declaration by the main parent/guardian in the household and provide 100 points of ID. It is also highly recommended that all persons in the household over the age of 18 undergo a Volunteer Working With Children Check (WWCD). This can be undertaken at no cost at the nearest NSW Service Centre.
  • Provide regular meals for the visiting student.
  • Ensure that the visiting student arrives to school and travels home with their homestay buddy.
  • Consent to a home visit from a representative from ASECE prior to the visiting student's arrival.

If you are interested in hosting a student, please contact either Ms Horton (ashlee.horton4@det.nsw.edu.au) or Ms Gorick (LISETTE.ROUSIANOS@det.nsw.edu.au) via the Front Office/email on 4733 0155 for more information. Alternatively, have your student return the attached form to the school and a staff member will be in touch.Note (pdf 230 KB)
