IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM MS GORICK, SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
Tuesday, 8 March 2022
Dear Parents and Carers
Due to the continued severe weather conditions in our area, local area flooding and road closures which have impacted families and staff, Glenmore Park High School will remain non-operational tomorrow, Wednesday 9 March 2022. To ensure the safety of students and staff please DO NOT send your children to school until further notice.
While our school is non-operational, our teachers will provide educational continuity for our students, as we did today and during COVID learning from home, using Google Classroom. However, we do understand that access to services may be affected, your own homes may be impacted and/or students may not be able to engage in online learning from home.
For students who are able to continue with their learning, they should log onto the Google Classroom pages for their courses at the beginning of each timetabled lesson and follow the instructions for that class. Learning activities can also be found on the Department of Education’s website: Learning from Home. Students can continue with homework tasks, any assessment tasks they have, and reading.
Student and staff safety is our highest priority at this time and we would like to remind our communities to please stay safe. Never enter floodwaters, especially considering the major cause of death during floods is from people entering or travelling through floodwater. This includes driving, riding and walking through floodwater and children playing in floodwater.
Floodwater may be deeper or faster flowing than it appears and can contain hidden debris.
Consider the following during periods of significant rain or flood:
· Drive safely – do not feel pressured by vehicles behind you or your passengers to cross a flooded road. Even emergency services will only enter the water as a last resort.
· A 'road closed' or a 'road flooded' sign means that road is unsafe to travel on. Find alternate ways which are free from floodwater or wait until the ‘all clear’ is given for that road. It is safer to turn around than to enter floodwater. Please keep up to date through the Live Traffic NSW, BOM and SES websites.
We will continue to utilise our preferred methods of communication with our families, namely through email and our Facebook page.
Families can also refer to our website at glenmorepk-h.schools.nsw.gov.au for up-to-date operational status.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Stay safe.
Yours sincerely
Lisette Gorick- Principal
